PDF OPTIMIZER

Compress a PDF with balanced quality settings

NetroDoc reduces PDF size using structural optimization plus a balanced Ghostscript PDF compression pass designed for everyday documents.

The compression pipeline can downsample high-resolution images to roughly 150 DPI. NetroDoc compares valid candidates and does not return a result larger than the uploaded source.

How to compress a PDF

1

Upload your PDF

Choose the PDF whose file size you want to reduce.

2

Choose Compress PDF

NetroDoc runs structural optimization and a balanced PDF compression pass.

3

Download the smallest result

The service returns the smallest valid candidate, never a file larger than the uploaded source.

What happens during PDF compression?

The PDF is validated first. Password-protected PDFs are not processed.

NetroDoc creates an optimized PDF structure and also runs Ghostscript pdfwrite with a balanced profile. High-resolution raster images may be resampled, while text and vector content generally remain vector-based.

Compression can change internal PDF structure and image fidelity. Digital signatures can become invalid, and specialized forms, color profiles, transparency, or advanced PDF features can render differently. Review important documents after compression.

When is Compress PDF useful?

Email attachments

Reduce large PDFs before sending them as attachments.

Portal upload limits

Make a document smaller when an online service imposes a file-size limit.

Web delivery

Reduce transfer size for PDFs distributed online.

Storage

Save space when high-resolution source images are unnecessary for everyday viewing.

Temporary file processing

Compression runs on the NetroDoc server in a temporary working directory using local PDF software; the uploaded file is not intentionally sent to a third-party cloud conversion API.

Temporary files are removed after the response is sent or after an error. No account is required.

Compress PDF FAQ

Will every PDF become much smaller?

No. PDFs that are already optimized or contain mostly compressed content may shrink only slightly or not at all.

Can compression reduce image quality?

Yes. The balanced profile may downsample high-resolution images to reduce file size.

Can the result be larger than my original?

NetroDoc compares valid candidates and does not return a result larger than the uploaded source.

Are password-protected PDFs supported?

No. The PDF must be unlocked before compression.

Will digital signatures remain valid?

Not necessarily. Rewriting or recompressing a PDF can invalidate digital signatures.
