PDF to PDF/A
Reviewed 13 October 2026
Create a PDF/A-2b-oriented archival copy when a receiving workflow asks for a long-term preservation format.
NetroDoc rebuilds a flattened visual copy with an sRGB output intent; this is intentionally different from preserving every interactive object in the source PDF.
How to use PDF to PDF/A
Upload the source PDF
Choose the document you want to prepare for archival delivery.
Create the PDF/A copy
Run the PDF to PDF/A conversion.
Validate for the destination
Open the result and, when required, validate it with the archive or institution receiving it.
What to know about PDF to PDF/A
The flattened rebuild does not preserve selectable text, links, forms or editable PDF objects in the same way as the source.
Institutional archives can require a specific profile or independent validator, so this tool should not be treated as a universal compliance certificate.
PDF/A copy, ordinary PDF, or independent validation?
Archival requirements should determine the workflow.
Use PDF/A when the destination requests it
Create the archival copy only for a workflow that benefits from it.
Keep ordinary PDF when interactivity matters
Do not flatten away links or forms when the receiving workflow still needs them.
Use independent validation for formal acceptance
A separate validator is appropriate when compliance evidence matters.
When PDF to PDF/A is useful
Archive submission
Prepare a visual archival copy for a system that requests PDF/A-2b.
Long-term document handoff
Create a fixed copy when interactive structures are not needed.
Pre-validation preparation
Produce a candidate PDF/A file before running a destination-specific validator.
Important PDF/A trade-offs
- Flattening removes interactive structures and can make selectable text unavailable.
- Complex visual content should be reviewed after the rebuild for rendering changes.
- Archive-specific rules can go beyond the PDF/A target used by this converter.
Processing and privacy
The PDF is processed temporarily. Keep the original because the archival copy deliberately flattens document structures.

No. The visual rebuild does not preserve those interactive/editable structures.

No. Use the receiving archive or an independent validator when formal conformance must be proven.
