Unlock a password-protected PDF
NetroDoc removes the opening password from a PDF when you provide the correct current password.
The result is a new PDF that opens without a password. The uploaded original is not modified.
How to unlock a PDF
Upload the protected PDF
Choose a PDF that currently requires a password to open.
Enter the current password
Provide the password that successfully opens the source PDF.
Unlock and download
Start Unlock PDF and download the new copy without the opening password.
What Unlock PDF does
NetroDoc verifies that the source PDF is password-protected and authenticates the supplied password before processing. An incorrect password is rejected.
After successful authentication, the file is rewritten without PDF encryption. The output is checked to confirm that it no longer requires a password and that the page count matches the source.
A valid user or owner password can be accepted when the PDF library authenticates it. Use Unlock PDF only on documents you are authorized to access.
Rewriting a PDF can invalidate existing digital signatures and may affect unusual advanced PDF features.
When is Unlock PDF useful?
Your own archives
Create an accessible copy of a document you own.
Authorized work files
Create an unprotected working copy of a PDF you are permitted to use.
Repeated access
Avoid entering the same password every time you open an authorized document.
Document workflows
Prepare an authorized PDF for another tool that does not support encrypted input.
Temporary processing and password handling
The PDF is processed in a temporary working directory on the NetroDoc server and is not intentionally sent to a third-party conversion API.
The password is used only to authenticate the uploaded PDF for this operation. It is not intentionally stored or written to the output metadata. Temporary files are removed after the response is sent or when processing fails.
The output is a separate unencrypted copy. Protect sensitive unlocked files appropriately after downloading them.
