Convert Excel XLSX files to PDF
NetroDoc converts valid XLSX files to PDF using LibreOffice Calc in headless server mode.
Before conversion, the OOXML package is validated. Office conversion has a 120-second timeout.
How to convert Excel to PDF
Upload your file
Choose a compatible file or drop it into the NetroDoc workspace.
Choose Excel to PDF
Start the conversion action shown for the selected file.
Download the result
NetroDoc creates the converted file and starts the download.
What happens during Excel to PDF conversion?
The XLSX upload is checked as an OOXML ZIP package. Required internal Office content must exist, packages with more than 5,000 internal files are rejected, and total uncompressed content is limited to 500 MB.
The validated file is converted with LibreOffice Calc and its PDF export filter using an isolated temporary LibreOffice profile and home directory.
Office rendering can differ when fonts, layout, formulas, pagination, print settings, or other features are interpreted differently by the server-side office engine. Important results should be reviewed after conversion.
When is this conversion useful?
Fixed-layout sharing
Share a rendered PDF instead of an editable Office source.
Printing and submission
Use PDF for portals, forms, or print workflows that prefer fixed documents.
Archiving a rendered version
Keep a PDF snapshot alongside the editable source.
Cross-device viewing
Reduce dependence on the recipient having the same Office application or settings.
Temporary file processing
The uploaded XLSX is processed in a temporary working directory on the NetroDoc server. The current path uses the server's LibreOffice installation and does not intentionally send the document to a third-party conversion or cloud API.
Temporary working files, including the isolated LibreOffice profile used for the conversion, are removed with the work directory after the response or on failure.
